70 passionate growers and their lilies; every day, they are determined to make more than 350 varieties shine. An epic journey precedes the moment when the lily earns a standing ovation. It begins with forcing the bulbs, where they wait patiently for the first shoots to appear. The duration of this process depends on the variety: 9–19 weeks for Orientals, 9–16 weeks for Longiflorums, and 8–16 weeks for Asian Hybrids. Afterward, the bulbs are planted in the ground, full of energy, and then it’s a matter of waiting until the lilies are fully grown and ready for the glorious harvest.
Lilies come in serene shades of white and pink, but also in striking colors such as fiery red, radiant yellow, enchanting purple, and vibrant orange. There are varieties with bold stripes, graceful edges, or mysterious spots. The flowers, shaped like trumpets or chalices, can have an impressive diameter ranging from 7 to as much as 25 centimeters. Modesty is not a word in a lily’s vocabulary.

But our lily growers look beyond just the flower. They take responsibility for sustainability in their cultivation practices. With LED lighting, heat storage, and the use of organic pesticides, they are taking steps toward a greener future. And let’s not forget the special employees—chickens that keep the soil loose, making chemical weed control a thing of the past. They work long days and even sleep in the greenhouse… and they lay an egg now and then. Chickens in the greenhouse ensure greener lilies and a better environment.
Every lily has unique characteristics: single or double-flowered, fragrant or scentless, with or without pollen—anything is possible. Lilies have an elegant appearance and a long vase life. The bud only opens in the vase, revealing impressive flowers that exceed all expectations.

*Pollen stain? Don’t rub! Let the pollen dry and remove it with a soft brush, a vacuum cleaner, or a piece of tape.
Lilies don’t have ordinary genes—no way! It’s those bold bulbs that determine the quality of the flower. Growers love plump bulbs, because they contain an abundance of stored nutrients for the plant. The plumper the bulb, the more breathtaking the flower! And as if that weren’t enough, that stubborn bulb also determines whether the lily will have large or small flowers, thick or thin stems, short or long stems. It’s all about getting the right bulbs—that’s what really matters!

The diversity of lilies is overwhelming. So many scents to choose from! For example, Orientals and Oriental Trumpets (OT) offer a very wide range of scents: from virtually scentless or lightly scented to room-filling. Because double lilies are descended from Orientals, they share the same characteristic light to strong scent. If you’re looking for soft, sweet scents, you should choose the Longiflorum and Longiflorum Oriental (LO) product groups.
All lilies have stamens, but the double-flowered varieties produce very little pollen.
Longiflorum Asiatic & Asiatic (LA & A) lilies are virtually scentless. They are the perfect choice for customers who aren't fond of the scent of lilies.
Stay calm! Don’t do this: don’t rub or wet it. Instead, take some tape and remove the pollen (powder) with the sticky side.
All Dutch growers support promotional activities. The promotional group Love for Lilies consists of the 70 Dutch growers who supply their lilies to the Royal FloraHolland auction.
